My Golden Retriever 'Andy" became deathly sick after I fed him some food on Saturday night. I ate the same food that I gave to him that was in our refrigerator. I didn't become sick? The container said it was a little outdated... besides it was only a fruit dip. Andy's immune system was not as strong as it used to be now that he is 12 years old.
I woke up Sunday morning and Andy was lying lifeless next to the back door. I tried to pick up his 80 pound body but he was completely limp. He would not even respond to his name nor could he hold his own head up. Andy was dying? His body was even cold to the touch. His breathing was very shallow as best.
My spirit rose up within me and I reminded God of His word! I didn't want my dog to die! As I was crying and quoting scriptures out loud, I laid my hands on Andy and I prayed.
Our Veterinarian is not available for emergencies on the weekends. That meant it might cost us a huge amount of money if we went into the larger nearby city to an Animal Emergency Hospital. At this point, it may already be too late.
The next day, Monday, my wife took Andy to see his Veterinarian. The doctor said that what I had innocently given Andy to eat was equivalent to giving a human being Botulism. The doctor told my wife that Andy would have died... if it had gone untreated! Andy was given some antibiotics and has recovered! Thank you Lord!
I believe that God heard my prayers and gave Andy the strength to fight off the poison until we could get him to the doctor on Monday. I believe that God does hear us when we pray and he knows what we have need of even before we ask. But, God still wants us to ask!
On that Monday as I was reading my Bible I came across this verse of scriptures; found in Mark 16:15 - (Jesus said) And he said unto them, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."
Oh wow, God has a sense of humor! I have never quite read this verse of scripture in that content before! I remember laying my hands upon Andy and praying over him when he was sick. I remember exercising my faith and believing God's word to heal and restore my dog. As I read this verse of scripture... I thought how awesome God's word is... We are to preach the Gospel to every creature!
Andy is a dog - "He is a creature"! Something to think about!
Rhema Marvanne was born 9/15/02, lost her mother, Wendi Marvanne Voraritskul, to ovarian cancer on November 8, 2008. Rhema lives in Carrollton, TX and attends The Branch Church at Vista Ridge Campus.
